Hi! I am Mauro.
I am a social scientist studying individuals’ behaviors and attitudes, and exploring how these are socially stratified and shape social outcomes. I have a strong focus on quantitative and computational methods, and my research integrates survey data, administrative records, and digital trace data to develop measures that are often challenging to capture with traditional approaches.
I am currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Sociology at Copenhagen University in the HABITS project, where we leverage online search data to measure social desirability bias in surveys. I received my PhD in May 2022 from the Department of Sociology at the University of Trento, where I also worked as a postdoc for the Periscope project.
Currently, my research centers around two main areas:
Discrimination and social inequality: I examine how discriminatory attitudes within communities influence voting behavior and wellbeing, and how these attitudes disproportionately affect underrepresented groups, such ethnic and racial minorities.
Health decisions and mental health: I investigate how individuals make health-related decisions, with particular attention to the role of cognitive processes in shaping vaccination decisions. In a new project, I am exploring the prevalence and distribution of mental health disorders across Europe using digital trace data.
